How to Know God

God cannot be found by thought; God can only be known through God’s own manifestation of God’s self, and in this God shows God’s self to be the absolute mystery who can be understood only through God’s own self-revelation.

Emil Brunner, 1889–1966

A Single Ingredient

“The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.”
– Theodore Roosevelt, 26th U.S. president

Be “Better Than”

“Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Don’t bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.”
– William Faulkner, Author

Decisions

“Our lives are shaped by the decisions we make. The decisions we make are shaped by the condition of our heart.”

Poverty

“Understanding poverty in all its dimensions (economic, political, cultural, physical, and spiritual), John Wesley took the command of Jesus, to minister to and live with the poor, with utter seriousness. Aiding the poor means making them more capable to fulfill their God-given gifts; it does not mean making them dependent. Simply giving money, however important, will not ….” (to be continued)

Opinions of actual members
Real Opinions from Real People

I “get” that this is too small to read, but I wanted you to see the bulk mail piece we sent out this week. You’ll just have to trust me that this is what it REALLY says. (If you’re someone that gets it in your mailbox in the next week, you can verify that these words are true by commenting if you think it’s necessary. Nanette and Cash would be the best persons to comment since it’s their quote!)

“We have been searching for a church home/family for almost a year now and have been feeling a little discouraged. At New Day were were greeted at the door and got to meet the pastor right away. We liked the casual atmosphere and natural peple. We also liked that the music was not too traditional but not too over the top, either. We had a very positive overall impression and plan to return.”  –Nanette and Cash

Let me tell you, Nanette and Cash did return and return and return. They have been attending faithfully each Sunday. They have helped on our service teams. Their boys have attended and will continue to attend (this Sunday night, in fact) our Kids Night Out. And they are opening up their home at the end of September for a conversation group to take place for 5 Tuesday nights in a row. Need I say more? No coercion, no pressure! Just the work of the Holy Spirit through a few persons building on God’s dream of a church where ALL feel welcome and at home!

I hope you can make it some Sunday night or to any of New Day’s activities to witness God’s forgiving love at work, first-hand, with your OWN eyes. Seeing is believing. Come expecting to meet God!

P.S. I learn something new with each new day. Just click on the picture and it gets bigger. Now you can read it for yourself and verify what I said! :)

Who’s Steering?

“Hearts that drift along currents forged by egocentric love and gratification disregard the compass of the mind, the rudder of reason and most of all the voice of Him who lovingly stands at the helm ready to affix our bearings and steer our course.”
